On September 1, 2008 my new website went on line “HistoricRaceCarForum.com.”

How about this for ‘opportunities coming your way?’   Good friend Junior Thompson calls me and says, ‘Hey Don, NHRA has asked me to be Grand Marshall at the 17th Annual California Hot Rod Reunion, Famoso, CA October 10-12, 2008.’  I say, ‘What an honor!’  That was last spring. As time went by he offered me join him for the weekend in his tent near the ‘start-line’ where he’ll be displaying two of his famous cars; one is his early 4 door Studebaker B/G car and the other is the Mazmanian/Thompson combo in the Opel Kadett AA/GS car.

Since I was never a professional racer but just one of the guys on the fence in the old days, this represents a grand opportunity for me to meet racers, car aficionados and collectors alike.  Here I am a little guy with a start up business with the goal of helping kindred-spirits sell or buy famous historic ¼ mile or dry lakes racers and what do I need most—a break!  And here comes Junior’s offer.  I’ll see you there.

Purpose of website:

(1) My role is to provide personalized assistance to preferred clients who have spent a lifetime in the unique pursuit of watching, building, driving and/or owning history making race cars.  Once we communicate I will make it my business to sell your car to a worthy client, collector, museum owner; or if you’re a person wishing to buy a historic race car I will help you find and authenticate a historic race car.

(2) The site will help people locate famous cars with the website section “Car Hunt”—there is no charge to friends for the use of this section of the website if you’re trying to locate a particular historic race car. Note: This section “Car Hunt” can be used by famous builders/drivers/owners to locate their old cars.  As an example please look at our first posting of Doug Thorley’s lost “Javelin 2” funny car, it will give you some idea how this can work.

(3) It has a “Background” section (hit tab at top of page) which will allow me to post articles I write—yes I also have been writing articles for some 20 years.  This “Background” section will also allow me to post interesting information that just makes for good reading and even updates from time to time.  One special thing that “Background” will do is introduce you to me—it will help supply initial information about the person who runs this site.  So even before I fly out to St. Louis to meet you and take pictures of your car and discuss our dealings together you’ll have some ‘frame of reference’ regarding me—this is of course if you own a historic car I’m interested in helping you make available to the right people in the right places.

Hey! Guess what?
This is going to be a ‘fun’ business to be in for myself and for preferred clients.  I will deal with friends on a ‘first come first serve’ basis—what do I mean? I mean I’m only one person and this is going to be a website that has that personal touch, so it will take some time for each and every project we discuss.  I will however, always communicate back promptly and let you know how my schedule is doing.  So let’s get to work and hope to see you at the 17th Annual California Hot Rod Reunion from October 10-12, 2008 at Famoso Raceway; look for me near the starting line hanging out with my good friend Junior Thompson!
